KARACHI: Habib University (HU) is holding its third postcolonial higher education conference on Oct 14th here at varsity’s campus, the HU spokesperson said in a statement on Saturday.
She said the varsity’s unique flagship conference aims to highlight the specific curricular and educational challenges of the postcolonial world, and the theme of this year’s meet is titled, ‘The inheritance of injustice’. The event is open to the public through registration at the university’s official website.
As in previous years, the conference’s list of speakers includes top global academics, this year bringing together scholars from South Asia, Africa, the US and UK, including the economist Dr Mwangiwa Githinji from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, whose keynote will address the question of a just postcolonial development.
Other speakers will engage topics such as the entrenched nature of global inequality, the nature of the contemporary state, the colonial inheritance in society and knowledge, feminism, Marxism and labour relations.
She said the troubled state of global society and economy today, including the reassertion of colonial and white supremacist mindsets in the West, makes the conference highly relevant to the current state of the world.
